Agent access

Give your AI assistant access to Cost of Life

Cost of Life can connect to an AI assistant, starting with Claude, through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Nothing is shared until you turn it on, and you choose how much your assistant can see.

What this is

MCP is an open way for an AI assistant to connect directly to an app, instead of you copying information back and forth between windows. Cost of Life runs its own MCP server, so an assistant you already use can work with the specific Cost of Life tools available at each level below.

How to connect

Cost of Life is in early testing ahead of general availability. There is no public hostname yet. Where testing is available, connecting works like this: in Claude, add Cost of Life as a custom connector, then sign in the way you already sign in to the app, with your email and a one-time passcode. Cost of Life has no password, so there is nothing for your assistant to see or store beyond the access it is granted.

What each level means

An "Agent access" section in the app's Settings lets you choose one of these levels for your account. Every new account starts at Off, and nothing changes until you pick something else.

Off. Agents can't access anything in Cost of Life.

Shopping list. Agents can see and add items to your shopping list.

My records. Agents can use the current tools to read receipts, spending, and price history. Receipt photos need a future access level and safe media delivery.

What stays private today

Today, receipt photos, raw scanned text, card-number fragments, and location do not reach an agent. Each needs its planned access controls or safety work before a future tool can return it.

Turning it off

Change the level any time from Settings → Agent access → Off. It takes effect on your assistant's very next attempt to use a Cost of Life tool, not the next time a token happens to expire, so it is a stronger stop than disconnecting the connector alone.
